A year with Picasso: the fiftieth anniversary exhibitions – World

World – The modernist genius returns to the breach on the fiftieth anniversary of his death: 2023 will be the year of Pablo Picasso, the protagonist of 50 exhibitions from Europe to the United States. Picasso Celebration 1973-2023 is the title of the great international project promoted jointly by France and Spain to pay homage to the Andalusian master: an unmissable opportunity to immerse yourself in his art, get to know it from every angle and explore its global influence, traveling between some of the most important museums of the world. Famous masterpieces will exceptionally leave their homes to be admired by distant spectators, while treasures unknown to the general public will finally conquer the limelight, revealing little-known aspects of Picasso’s work and personality.

2023 will also be an opportunity for research that will see scholars and prestigious institutions confront each other, united in the desire to fully understand a figure who profoundly marked the 20th century and who still represents an essential reference today. In the foreground of Picasso’s projects of the year will be his dimension as an essentially European artist, who has combined his profound knowledge of tradition with a revolutionary spirit ready to take up the most advanced challenges of the modern. But the Andalusian genius was also capable of going beyond the confines of his own culture, speaking to spectators distant in time and space, and creating universal symbols such as Guernicaemblem of the refusal of war and the defense of human rights.
